Pence Family Hosts Military Families, Among Them New Egypt Residents

By Katelynn Carlson

The Vice President of the United States of America, Mike Pence, and Second Lady, Karen Pence, hosted a Veterans’ Day dinner at their house on November 7th. The dinner was one of the many events Mrs. Pence has hosted in celebration of military members. The guests consisted of families from various branches of the military, all from Fort Meade. Many families, including mine, had the chance to attend this dinner. All of the families were invited mainly to be celebrated by the Vice President and his wife during the National Military and Veterans Month.

The Pence family is an avid supporter of the military and is very involved in promoting the status of the military. During the gathering, Mrs. Pence gave a speech about how all of their children have either joined the military or are married to someone serving in the military. Mrs. Pence is committed to bringing awareness to the sacrifices that military service members and families make as the second lady. This Veterans Day gathering was only one of many events that Mrs. Pence has hosted for military members and she made it a night to remember.

2020 Bowling Season Outlook

By: Katelynn Carlson

Bowling coach Mr. Sean Feddema is looking forward to many things for the bowling teams this year.  He’s been coaching with Mr. Sam Palumbo for three years and he has especially high hopes for this season. The girls are defending sectional champions and this season both the boys and girls teams have already played nine matches.

The boys have won five of those matches while the girls won three. The keynote win for the boys was beating Maple Shade. While the girls were proud of their key victory of the year over Bordentown thus far.

Feddema is highly optimistic for the second half of the season and has said very positive things about both the boys and girls teams. According to Feddema, the girls are showing growth this season, and are hoping to reach their potential, meaning that they have games where everyone is on in lockstep and having a good day.

For the boys’ team, Feddema is looking forward to divisionals, and he’s even gone as far as to say that this team is the strongest team since he and Palumbo started coaching. Feddama’s goal is to have everyone at their best in February because of sectionals, he explained, “Being at their best when it matters the most.”

Feddema has a lot of hope for both teams and he wants them to both stay competitive and confident, they are second in the division and February is when everybody needs to be at their personal best.

This season Feddema has already had some regrets, a slow start in the season and dropping a match against Bordentown was not something they were planning on, but regardless of that, they are all still improving. Although this season had a slow start, both girls and boys have a lot of matches coming up. The girls have important matches against Maple Shade with lots of other rescheduled matches coming up. On the other hand, the boys have 13 matches coming up in a span of 23 days, they are especially looking forward to playing against Maple Shade, and Cinnaminson.

Although this year is going well, Feddema is already looking forward to next year. He is thinking very optimistically even though both teams are losing valuable seniors. Next year, the girls will lose Gabby Biesiada and Libby Witham: both 4-year varsity players and will be a big loss. Jess Sakimura is returning next year and will be the sole senior.

The boys will be losing Matt Hagen and Ryan Twarkusky, but with 6 of 7 varsity players returning with a promising freshman class for next year, Feddema is optimistic. Feddema has even had contact with a few 8th-grade bowlers who have potential and he looks forward to having them on the team and helping the team grow.
